All classes enjoyed Harvest Day yesterday and every pupil had the opportunity to create and decorate chocolate apples.

P1 CLASS:  Pupils in P1 participated in a class Harvest Assembly titled 'My First Harvest Festival.' They also watched the class teacher carve a pumpkin and counted the seeds. This was followed by a very exciting pumpkin collage and then procedural writing on 'How to Make Rice Krispie Buns!

  • A final word from Mr Reid.

    Thu 14 Oct 2021

Hi everyone, just a quick note to say I had a lovely time last Thursday at our outdoor assembly where all the boys and girls gave me a great send-off. There were books of memories, pictures, the recital of a lovely poem and of course lots of lovely gifts. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to my gifts, I was genuinely overwhelmed. I am looking forward (as is my wife!) to using the very generous vouchers for the Pheasant restaurant and the Hastings Hotel group. However, the fun didn’t stop there, as last Friday evening I had a delightful meal out with the staff and governors where yet again I was moved by their generosity and kind farewells.

I have many happy memories of leading Anahilt PS over the past five years and I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. I wish my successor, the staff, pupils, parents, PTA and governors every success in the years to come.

    R Reid.

  • Farewell Mr Reid

    Thu 07 Oct 2021

Today we said farewell to Mr Reid who was appointed just over 5 years ago as Principal and we thanked him for his leadership and guidance during this period of time. Pupils and staff benefitted from Mr Reid’s words of encouragement and advice during weekly Friday Assemblies and everyone enjoyed his sense of humour. The past two years in particular, have been extremely difficult with the implications of the pandemic but Mr Reid has managed to keep everyone fully informed with Coronavirus updates and provided parents and pupils with signposts and quick links for use during the ‘Home Learning’ period. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed participating in the APS Engage Activities (featured in the Video Channel on the school website) during the lockdown period and everyone in the school community enjoyed watching them! During these challenging times Mr Reid has focussed on looking after the mental health and wellbeing of both staff and pupils, in addition to ensuring that pupils were given the opportunity to progress with their learning, initially online until face-face teaching resumed.

There have been a significant number of changes to the physical buildings and grounds since Mr Reid was appointed to the school. At the same time as his appointment the Anahilt and Magheraconluce Community Association has emerged and the close relationship between it, the school and the PTA has been to the benefit of the school, which has greatly enhanced the learning experiences of the pupils.

We wish Mr Reid every success in the future.

  • Happy Retirement Daphne

    Tue 05 Oct 2021

Today we were thrilled to have Daphne visit us at school to mark her retirement. Gifts were presented on behalf of the Governors, Staff, Parents and Pupils.

Daphne retired as our school Building Supervisor on Friday 24 September after an amazing 42 years of service.

Daphne not only took a great interest in the school premises but also in both pupils and staff. She was a pupil herself at Anahilt Primary School as well as her own children attending. She served three Principals, the late W Kyle, D Capper and currently R Reid.

Whether it was cleaning the floors, the windows or the desks, Daphne always took a pride in her work. But more importantly, she loved talking to the children and being a surrogate mother to them, sympathising with them when they fell or reassuring them when they were upset. Then there were the cups of tea prepared for the staff when they arrived in the morning and hot orange juice if one was feeling unwell!

Daphne became a part time cleaner in the school in 1979, later becoming Cleaner-in-charge and then Building Supervisor in 2002.  Daphne has now decided to take a well- earned rest.

We wish her every happiness in her retirement.
