Teacher Swap Day
Pupils and staff recently enjoyed an unforgettable day of learning, creativity, and collaboration, thanks to an exciting initiative organised by the School Council. The special event brought a fresh twist to the school timetable, allowing every class to spend time with each teacher throughout the day, experiencing a wide range of activities led by staff members’ personal interests and talents.
The aim of the day was simple yet powerful: to give pupils the opportunity to explore new skills, build connections with different teachers, and experience learning in fun and engaging ways. The result was a vibrant and energetic atmosphere across the entire school, with classrooms transformed into hubs of creativity, movement, and discovery.
Each teacher planned a unique session based on something they were passionate about. Mrs Humphreys got the day off to a lively start with her pool noodle drumming workshop. Pupils quickly picked up rhythms using colourful noodles, filling the room with energy and laughter while developing their sense of timing and coordination.
Meanwhile, Miss Carson took pupils outdoors to try out their hockey skills. From dribbling techniques to teamwork drills, pupils had the chance to get active and build confidence in a sport that many found both challenging and exciting.
Back indoors, Mrs Purdy brought music to life by encouraging pupils to conduct their own orchestra. Pupils learnt how conductors communicate with musicians, and they had great fun tracing the shapes in the air for their own musical performances.
Mrs Irvine challenged pupils’ thinking with a series of intriguing maths puzzles. These activities encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, and perseverance, proving that maths can be both stimulating and fun when approached in creative ways.
For those full of energy, Mr Shields led dynamic PE sessions, ensuring that everyone had the chance to stay active and enjoy physical exercise. His sessions were filled with games and challenges that promoted teamwork, fitness, and enthusiasm.
Language skills were also put to the test in Mrs McCune’s French lessons. Pupils learnt new vocabulary and phrases through interactive whiteboard activities, giving them a taste of another culture while building their confidence in speaking a new language.
Finally, Miss Smyth sparked the imagination with her drama workshops. Pupils explored expression, storytelling, and performance, gaining confidence as they worked together to create short scenes and bring characters to life.
Throughout the day, pupils rotated between teachers, ensuring that everyone experienced each activity. The opportunity to interact with all members of staff helped strengthen relationships across the school and created a real sense of community.
The feedback from pupils was really positive, with many highlighting how much they enjoyed trying something new and learning from different teachers. Staff also noted how rewarding it was to share their personal interests and see pupils engage in new and exciting ways.
This fantastic event showcased the creativity and dedication of both the School Council and staff.
Well done to everyone involved for making the day such a success!
